Facebook is a social networking website that was once used only by college students. The famous social networking website now attracts many different types of users. Are you a Facebook user? Did you know Wilmot Union High School started a Facebook group for Alumni?
Read this article and learn about how Dunkin' Donuts recently utilized Facebook to reach is thousands of fans. Do you know of any other companies using Facebook? If so, what/how are they using the website to their advantage? OR- How could companies be using Facebook?

Well, it's definately a clever way to get a hold of more steady customers. With this economy, companies need to start thinking outside the box when it comes to bringing in the cash.
ReplyDeleteI can't say that I've heard of other companies using Facebook, considering I don't have one. But there's no denying that it was a smart move on Dunkin' Donuts' part, and I'm pretty sure other companies would definately like to get a piece of that sucess.
I think Wilmot High would use facebook because since so many people have facebook, that more people will see the things that Wilmot High is showing, or what they want students to see. It also gets around faster then if it was sent a different way.

I know of many companies that use facebook. It is a great P.R. for any business. A person can become a fan of a certain business and then it shows up on all of that persons friends notifications. Thus, getting the name and style of the business out and into the public.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great idea for any company. When you can go on facebook and advertise your business it makes people think about using it and consider it in there daily routine. This could help get customers majorly. To bring more money in to the business.
ReplyDeleteI do have a Facebook account, but I don't use it that often at all. I don't think I've heard of our school having a group for Alumni. That's pretty cool! Since I just joined Facebook, I don't know of any companies using it yet. I think that a lot of companies should use Facebook the same way that Dunkin' Donuts used it- to become closer to the consumers. I think schools such as ours would want to start a group for alumnis so they can keep in close touch with their roots. I love going back to my old grade school to see what's new with them. I'm sure the alumni feel the same way.

Lexey P.- I don't use facebook so I don't really know any other businesses that use facebook to promote their business. I did not know that Wilmot uses facebook for the Alumni. I think that it would be a good idea for companies to use facebook to promote their things because there are so many people that use facebook, which would really get the word out there. They could have chats with their costumers that have questions, which is always good. Especially if it is with someone that works at that company that can answer your questions. People like that. I think that schools would want to make a facebook page for Alumni because it is a good way for the Alumni to keep up with what is going on at their old school. Also, it would be a really good way for the Alumni to catch up with the people they haven't seen or talked to in awhile.
ReplyDeleteBryan M-With the way the economy keeps shooting down using facebook is a great and cheap way to advertise. The people that own the companies, or maybe company, that use facebook are able to keep more money. Using facebook brings Dunkin Donuts in the circle of technology, they are able to reach out and touch the consumers that get news on the computer and now from a television. In my opinion schools/classes could have a facebook so that if students miss some school they can just go look on the schools/classes facebook and that way they, the students, won’t fall behind on work too often. I think it’s a great way to advertise, inform students, or even a way to communicate with friends/teachers. But I myself do not have a facebook
ReplyDelete612- I am personally not a Facebook user, and I have not heard of any companies, besides Dunkin' Donuts', using a Facebook. I think it would be in the best interest of the company to use Facebook, because it is a cheap and affective way to get news spread. I did not know that Wilmot had a Facebook for alumni, but I think that was a good idea for the alumni to keep in touch with their old school and the activities it is holding. So, anyone from alumni to major companies can use Facebook to their advantage.
ReplyDeleteMandy E.-I myself am not a user of facebook and have not heard until now that Wilmot has a facebook for alumni. I have heard good things about Facebook though, mainly that it was for businesses. I definitely think that it's a good advertising strategy for businesses. Not only is it cheap, but it allows businesses to establish personal relationships with their customers. I think that the reason for schools utilizing facebook for alumni to maintain old relationships and keep in contact. Facebook would allow the scheduling class reunions to reach it's users sooner.
ReplyDeleteJordan H - To use Facebook for advertising is a great idea. Who knows if there are some computer nerds out there that could all of a sudden feel like having Dunkin Donuts . Many Companies advertise over the internet and to do it over such a popular website that attracts collage students and old people with money in there pockets a great idea.

618- I think it MAY be a good way to get ideas around faster but also it could be a down side to letting kids on facebook during school hours, if they let us. It may be a down side by students either may not have a facebook or they may talk to other students about their private lives and such. If schools are planning to start a group on facebook I think that the schools should think about the consequences they may have.
ReplyDeleteBryan W.- Facebook or Myspace which are major sources of Communication over the internet depend on the people who have them as a means of better buisness. The idea of Dunkin Donuts using Facebook is a wise one. I was not aware of Wilmot Union High School using a Facebook group for Alumni, however i now know that they did. I do not have a Facebook, but i know that many people do and many people dont. Most people have a Myspace, which I think is way more popular among people.

ReplyDeleteNo. Companies could use Facebook to advertise, and give people discounts. I think that that would be a better way of publicizing themselves. And, coupons online are way cooler then coupons in the advertiser! :)
I think that sound like a great idea, it would help high school friends connect and reminisce back to when they were in high school. Also, it would help people find each other on Facebook.
I personally think that this is a great new way of "spreading the word" for evolving companies. I think the reason why they would use facebook is because it is recently becoming more and more popular. They probably think if they get as many fans as possible, then maybe they will get even more customers. I do have a facebook...but I barely ever go on it, so therefore I wouldn't know what kind of companies would have one. Facebook is a great network for high schools because people can keep in touch easier and find old friends. Overall I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more and more companies creating facebook accounts, they do want more money don't they?
ReplyDelete619- I recently have gotten a Facebook because one of my friends suggested I should make an account. I myself do not know of any companies using Facebook. Companies, such as Dunkin' Donuts could use Facebook for many advertising techniques. On Myspace, many companies or stores pay Myspace.com money to advertise their product on the log-in or home page. Facebook could also do this, in order to attract more attention from customers and companies.
ReplyDeleteIt is an excellent idea for Wilmot Union High School to start a group on Facebook because then students could find other students that are in their grade or school. It is also a good way to communicate.
Lauren S.-I do have a facebook, but I didn't know Wilmot had an alumni group. Thats a pretty good idea because it could help arrange reunions and just keep everyone in touch. I can't really think of other businesses that use it as an advertiser, but that is a good idea considering how many people use facebook and how easy it would be to do that.
ReplyDelete626- I do not have a facebook and did not know wilmot had one. My mom has a facebook and says that it is great better than myspace. She has seen many businesses advertise there companys. Millions of people around the world use facebook and if your company whants to be heard then you have to advertise on it.
ReplyDeleteSocial Networking has become a hugh opportunity for individuals, companys, schools, etc. to reach a much boarder audience. Additionally SN tools like facebook and Twitter are extremely popular and adding 1,000s of members each day. The old static websites, email and a like are no longer the most effective way to communicate. The Net Generation (like your students) are more interested in sharing text, photos and videos..the reason companies, schools, individuals should consider SN tools for marketing, communications, etc. is because it is the most widely used tools and it is the way the Net Gen likes to share information.

607- I am personally a Facebook user, and it can be a very informative way to find things. I do know that Wilmot High School started a Facebook group for Alumni. I think that schools, like Wilmot, would start a group on Facebook for alumni so that people can keep in touch, and so the companies or schools can inform the people about things that are happening there. I personally think it is a great idea for companies, because there are many Facebook users that check out the sites from companies, and it is a cheap way for companies to advertize.
